June 26 – July 8, 2023

Yerevan, Armenia

Welcome to our lab’s summer school on experimental optics! This two-week intense program, running from June 26th to July 8th, is designed for university undergraduates starting their 3rd or 4th bachelor year, master and PhD students, as well as former graduates who want to gain knowledge in the field of experimental optics. Participants will learn about the basic optical elements and advanced optical devices such as spatial light modulators, cameras, spectrometers, and microscopes. In addition, we will provide basic knowledge in the fields of optical computing, optical imaging, and beam shaping. Participants will also have the opportunity to learn how to automate these devices using computer interfaces in Python and work on experimental projects related to optics and programming. Our experienced researchers will lead the program, providing a cohesive and consistent learning experience for all participants. To ensure a high-quality teaching experience, we are limiting the number of participants to 10. Join us for a valuable learning experience and gain knowledge and skills in experimental optics and programming!

School Program

During the school, you are going to do experiments with

  • Light sources

    • Monochromatic, pulse, and supercontinuum lasers led sources.
  • Optical elements

    • Mirrors, lenses, beam splitters, density and color filters, glan and dispersion prisms, polarizers, waveplates
  • Optical devices

    • Microscope, power meter, camera, spectrometer, phase and amplitude spatial light modulators
  • Optical materials

    • Liquid crystals, chiral dopants, sugar-liquid mixture

During the school, you are going to get acquainted with

  • Optical imaging

  • Optical spectroscopy

  • Optical polarimetry

  • Spatial light modulation

  • Dielectric and optical properties of liquid crystals

  • Liquid crystals under electric and magnetic fields

  • Chiral liquid crystals

  • Nonlinear light-matter interaction

Registration

Registration is closed. The applicants will be notified about the admission by the 24th of June 2023.

PhotonicsAI Lab, Institute of Physics,  Yerevan State University, 1 Alex Manoogian st., Yerevan 0025, Armenia

Additional information

  • All the lecturers and trainers will be the researchers from PhotonicsAI laboratory

  • The working language will be English

  • The school hours will be from 14:00 to 19:00

  • The top-performing participants may receive offers to conduct research at PhotonicsAI
